This is an original 1935 halftone print featuring an image of Reverend Gustaf Elias Marius Unonius, a pioneer & priest in the American Midwest, and a catalyst for early Scandinavian emigration to the Upper Midwest.

On 20 April 1848, the Rev. Gustaf Unonius became the first Rector of St. James' Episcopal Church in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Gustaf Unonius founded the Nya Upsala, a short-live settlement of Swedish immigrants located in the north central section of Waukesha County, Wisconsin.
