1936 Print Aircraft Carrier Yorktown Boat Ship Marine Stanley Wood Port Dock FZ2

This is an original 1936 color print of the USS Yorktown. The ship was launched in April of 1936, but was unfortunately sunk during the Battle of Midway in 1942. The caption writes, "Bow of the $19,000,000 aircraft carrier Yorktown launched last April."

Stanley Wingate Wood

Stanley Wingate Wood (1890-1970) was a native of Malden, Massachusetts, prior to relocating to Rockport, Massachusetts. However, Wood received his formal art education at the Boston Museum School of Fine Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Eric Pape School of Art. Wood was most recognized for his paintings, etchings, graphic art design, illustrations and printmaking mediums. His works primarily centered on seascapes, winterscapes, architecture, figures, genre, landscapes, as well as marine and nautical subjects. WoodÕs art has been held at the International Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D. C., the Grand Central Art Galleries of New York City, the Vose Galleries of Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, the Holyoke Art Museum, the Washington City Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and many more. He was affiliated with the New York Water Color Club, the Salmagundi Club, the Washington D. C. Watercolor Club, the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, the North Shore Art Association (Gloucester Paint and Clay Club), the Rockport Art Association, the American Society of Etchers, the Guild of Boston Artists, the Audubon Society of Artists, the Allied Artists of America and more. Later, Wood taught at the Sandy Bay Art School, the Laguna Beach School of Art and Design, the Ringling Art School and the Woodward Outdoor Painting School.
