This is a set of 11 original 1936 tipped-in color prints that accompany a ten-page (5 pages, double-sided) article in French "Hans Memlinc a Bruges," by Georges Grappe about the Flemish painter, Hans Memling or Memlinc (c. 1430-1494). The works of art include three paintings from a triptych: "L'Adoration des Mages," "Sainte VŽronique," and "La NativitŽ"; four paintings from the Ch‰sse de Sainte Ursule: "L'ArrivŽe ˆ Cologne," "L'ArrivŽe ˆ Rome," "Le Martyre des Vierges," and "La Mort de Sainte Ursule"; two paintings from a diptych: "La Vierge ˆ la Pomme," and "Portrait de Martin Van Nieuwenhoven"; and "Portrait de Marie, Fille de Guillaume Moreel." Each print, with a border of gold ink, is hand tipped-in on a heavy textured paper and is easily removable for individual framing. Please note that the dimensions of the prints vary. Founded by ƒdouard Charton, the first issue was published on March 4, 1843. The magazine ceased publication in 1944. L'Illustration was known for its extensive use of beautiful illustrative material as well as for its articles. The illustrated pieces represent some of the finest quality printing from that eraÐÐusing as many as a dozen unique inks, metallic inks, emboss and deboss dies, and they were printed on a variety of the finest textured and untextured papers. Much sought after by collectors, these prints and covers are eminently suitable for framing.

This 75+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine. No creases. No natural defects. Some light surface rub. No water damage. There is a small tear in the bottom margin of the fourth page. Please note that the areas of gold ink appear brown in the digital image.
