This is an original 1937 black and white photogravure of a painting by Alejo Fernández that depicted the Madonna protecting the European explorers that came to America during the Age of Exploration. Some of the prominent figures portrayed here include, Ferdinand II of Aragon, Emperor Charles V, Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, St. Sebastian, St. James the Great, St. Elmo, and St. John the Evangelist.
