Yasuo Kuniyoshi
Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1893-1953) was an American photographer, painter and printmaker. Kuniyoshi was born in Okayama, Japan, and immigrated to the United States in 1906. Kuniyoshi studied at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design, the National Academy, and at the Art Students League of New York. Kuniyoshi was a modernist painter known for his figures and depictions of animals and folk art. Unfortunately, during World War II, Kuniyoshi was placed under house arrest and had his bank account impounded, even though he offered to serve with the Aircraft Warning Service.
