This is an original 1937 black and white halftone print of a Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) which is also known as a Komodo monitor. This largest living species of lizard is native to the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Runca, Flores, Gili Motang, and Padar. It can grow up to 10 feet long and are known to hunt in groups which is unique to this species of lizard. Komodo dragons are not poisonous but they do have septic bacteria in their saliva that can lead to dangerous infections if left untreated.
