This is an original 1937 halftone print of Ward McAllister of New York. McAllister coined the phrase the "Four Hundred," the number of people in New York who were considered high society, and could easily fit inside of Mrs. Caroline Astor's ballroom. McAllister appointed himself as the judge of New York society and ruled from the 1860s to the early 1890s.
