This is an original 1938 black and white photogravure of a unique piece by Italian Renaissance artist Filippino Lippi which depicts the Virgin Mary adoring her beautiful baby who was destined to grow up and become the messiah. This is very unusual way of positioning Mary and the Christ child, as most artists at the time preferred to go with the more traditional "Madonna" pose, with the baby on Mary's lap. However, this makes the bond between mother and son seem a lot more intimate.
