This is an original 1939 black and white halftone print of the Street of Tombs which lies outside the buried city of Pompeii, Italy. This was an important location for the ancient city as the wealthy of Pompeii would want their loved ones interred as close to the city as possible, but since burial within the city was strictly forbidden, they had these tombs (thirty in total) built just outside of the city's walls on the road to Herculaneum.
