André Dunoyer de Segonzac
André Dunoyer de Segonzac was born in Boussy-Saint-Antoine in 1884, spending his childhood there and in Paris. Segonzac enrolled at the Free Academy of Luc-Olivier Merson, but left because the style of academic instruction did not suit him. Following military service, Segonzac enrolled at the Académie de la Palette, but again left, preferring an independent course of study. He declared the year of 1906 the official starting date of his artistic career.
Segonzac's paintings were heavily influenced by Courbet and Cézanne. He was a prolific artist throughout his adult life until his death in 1974 at the age of 90. In addition to working in oils, Segonzac worked in watercolor and as printmaker.
