This is an original 1939 black and white halftone print of the courtyard of Wawel in Krakow (Kraków), Poland (Polska). The structure was built on a limestone outcrop and oversees the Vistula River. Various royal coronations have occurred in the building, which has become a prominent fortification after it was home to Miezko I, Boleslaw I the Brave, and Mieszko II.
