This is an original 1939 halftone print of the Hiram Walker distillery in Peoria, Illinois. The caption writes, "These vats, of which Hiram Walker has twenty-four, hold 120,000 gallons each. Temperatures are automatically controlled, and the vats sealed against wild yeast in the air, which could otherwise spoil a batch in short order. After each run the round sides of the vats are sterilized with live steam." Photography by Fred Korth.
