This is an original 1940 halftone print of workers at the American Cyanamid Company working with crystals of phthalic anhydride. The substance is used in large scale productions of plastics.

The American Cyanamid Company was a large chemical manufacturer and was founded in 1907 by Frank Washburn. Divisions of the company include Lederle Laboratories, Davis & Geck, Old Spice, Breck, Pine-Sol and Melmac. Currently, the company is known as Cytec.
