This is an original 1942 halftone print of the staff of the Free Press. The caption writes, "The staff in turn are passionately proud of the old man; particularly, observes Bruce Hutchinson, 'when is engaged in taking the pants off someone-- meaning, as a rule, appeasers, Tories, tariff protectionists, anyone who doesn't understand personal freedom. On such occasions there is a sudden lift to the spirit of the whole Free Press organization, and the boys of his staff like to boast that he is really a terrible old man.' In the picture above, 'J. W.' stands in the Free Press newsroom at the left elbow of 'Ted' Dafoe, telegraph editor, one of his four sons."
