Bernard Gramatky
Bernard "Hardie" Gramatky (1907-1979) was an American illustrator and author. He is most noted for writing the children's book, Little Toot, which was later developed into a Disney movie. Gramatky went to school at Stanford University and at the Chouinard Art Institute. He became a senior animator at Walt Disney Studios and worked there for six years, beginning in 1929. After working for Disney, Gramatky chose a free lance offer from Fortune magazine, and with the publication, was able to travel to several locations, including Hudson Bay, and the Bahamas. While looking at the East River in New York City, he saw a small tugboat that stood out from all the rest. It was there that he got the idea for Little Toot.
