This is an original 1944 black and white halftone print of a Japanese dive-bombing assault on an aircraft carrier near Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. The pilot in the Curtiss CB2C Helldiver shown at left was lucky today, as the bomb dropped by the Japanese attacker missed, but scattered shrapnel across the flight deck.
Due to this image's release date, the name of the aircraft carrier shown is not given.
