This is an original 1945 halftone print of soldiers working on their French in France. A caption writes, "Some other aspects of CONAD's educational activities in conjunction with the Franco-American Institute, were varied university extension courses offered to convalescents. Here patients in a CONAD general hospital are seen in their French language class, together with their instructors, French Red Cross workers."

"Conad History" (Continental Advance) was created to preserve the history of the United States Army supply forces, and to provide a basis for future studies by the United States War Department. The book covered the continental advance, communications zones, the European theater of operations, and the United States Army during 1944 and 1945. The Conad staff began in Africa and traveled to central Europe where they finished.
