Grant Wood

Grant DeVoison Wood was born in Iowa, and is known for depicting the midwest in his paintings. He is best known for his 1930 painting titled "American Gothic," which is arguably one of the most famous American paintings. During the Great Depression, he began the Stone City Art Colony in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to help fellow artists see through the depression.
