van der Weyden, Rogier
Rogier van der Weyden (1399-1464) was an early Flemish painter who focused on mainly religious triptychs, altarpieces and single or diptych portraits. He was considered one of the best in his day until a lot of his work was destroyed in the 17th century. He worked from models and painted them very statuesque, which was typical during this time. His forms are rendered with rich, warm, coloration with a sympathetic expression. He used a broad range of colors and varied tones; in his finest work the same tone doesnÕt appear twice.
