This is an original 1947 black and white photogravure of Swan Tavern in Yorktown, Virginia. The original Swan Tavern and subsequent structures on its site had been destroyed by early twentieth century. After the National Park Service discovered the original foundations for the Swan Tavern during an excavation in 1933, the structure was rebuilt using Mathew Brady's Civil War images, insurance records and inventories. The new Swan Tavern was completed in 1935.
