The First Capitol is currently owned and operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The First Capitol Historic is a free admission historic museum located at N of Belmont off U.S. 15, Wisconsin. The museum includes two of the buildings first used as the place where the territorial legislature established Wisconsin's territorial government.
Nelson Dewey was the first Governor of Wisconsin. Dewey's home is operated by the State Historical Society as the Nelson Dewey State Park, a land of incredible vistas overlooking the Mississippi River valley. On the site is Nelson Dewey's home with a Gothic revival style. His 2,000 acre plantation was considered the stateÕs first large scale farming operation.
