This is an original 1950 black and white photogravure of the castle (Château de Ducs) and town hall in the commune of Alençon, France. This town is located in the region of Normandy in northern France and was most likely founded in the 4th century.

Normandy is the historical region corresponding to the former Duchy of Normandy in northern France. It lies along the English Channel and is traditionally divided into Upper and Lower Normandy. In World War II, the D-Day landings occurred along the Normandy beaches and that event began the lengthy Battle of Normandy which many believe was the turning point of that war.
