This is an original 1950 black and white photogravure of the castle (Château de Dieppe) and the Westgate which can be found in the city of Dieppe, France. Dieppe is located in the region of Normandy in northern France. The castle is now a museum which contains a strong maritime collection.
Normandy is the historical region corresponding to the former Duchy of Normandy in northern France. It lies along the English Channel and is traditionally divided into Upper and Lower Normandy. In World War II, the D-Day landings occurred along the Normandy beaches and that event began the lengthy Battle of Normandy which many believe was the turning point of that war.
