Period Paper is pleased to offer an original collection of original photolithograph prints of 100 line etchings (some with dry point) created by Pablo Picasso between 1930 and 1937. This compilation, known as the Suite Vollard, was created for Ambroise Vollard (1866(?)-1939), the great French art dealer and publisher of early 20th century modern art. Picasso's mistress, Marie-Therese Walter, was the model for many of these etchings. Each print offered is from the original, first edition portfolio produced in 1956, on heavy, structured stock. These prints have long been recognized as one of the supreme productions of the master's hand. Arising from Picasso's artistic caprice, from his working experience, or from the very depths of his unconscious, these plates show, more than any of his other works, a man at once inspired by and prey to his dazzling imagination and the demands of his inner demon.
This piece was illustrated by Picasso, Pablo.
Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter, stage designer, and sculptor. An incredibly talented man, he tried his hand at many different artistic styles throughout his life, including realism, classicism and surrealism; however he is most remembered for being a co-pioneer of cubism with French artist Georges Braque. Several specific "periods" into which his work is classified include his Blue Period, during which time he preferred to draw mothers and children in bluish and greenish hues, and his Rose Period, which featured more lively subjects such as acrobats and harlequins. He is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential 20th century artists, and is especially remembered for his portrayal of the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War in his 1937 piece, "Guernica."
