A native of Munich, Germany, Franz Marc became a renown figure in the art world as a German Expressionist painter, as well as a a printmaker. The majority of his works consisted of paintings, lithographs and woodcuts, all which generally portrayed animals in native settings. However, his artistic stylings also dabbled in futurist, expressionism, abstract, modernism and cubism. His works primarily centered around breaking down traditional views of objects to create a newfound imaginative outlook. His art also was also highly focused on representative nostalgia, as well as the spiritual. Marc was the founder of the Der Blaue Reiter" art journal.
