This is an original 1960 tipped-in color print of Rinaldo in the Gardens of Armida. Fragonard spent about 6 years in Italy and this painting is subject from an Italian play where Rinaldo is a Christian warrior and Armida entices him into her enchanted garden to prevent him from returning to war. The French Revolution put an end to Fragonard's patrons and he died almost forgotten.
