
1963 Color Print Anna Hummingbird Bracteate Chysis Orchid Mexico Wildlife HMX1
This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of a few members of the Calypte Anna family, known commonly as the Anna Hummingbird. With an average length of 87 mm., the male's head and throat of metallic purple red, except for a white line behind the eye. The lateral throat feathers are lengthened backwards; the tail is blaclish brown and the beak black and relatively short. The female has a few reddish-purple feathers in the central part o the throat, and the lateral tail feather are tipped with white. This hummingbird breeds in western California, and migrates to the Mexican region near the State of Sonora in the winter. The pictured orchid is Chysis bractescens, commonly known as the Bracteate Chysis, and is found primarily in Veracrus and the region of Xioctepec de Juárez in Puebla.
