This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Cynanthus Latirostris family, commonly known as the Broad-billed Hummingbird. With an average length of 87-100 mm., the tail is moderately forked, blackish blue, some of the central feathers having gray tips. The throat is metallic blue-green, with a long, reddish beak with curves slightly. Found all over Mexico, except in Baja California and Yucatan, it has been seen in the southwestern United States. The plant pictured is the Odontoglossum Insleayii, which grows around Orizaba and Cordoba, Veracruz, and is fairly rare.
